Confession: I don’t know how to live a life without chocolate. I just don’t. Take away my dairy and I’ll make homemade chocolates with coconut oil. Take away my sugar and I’ll figure out how to make unsweetened chocolate taste good <— yes, that happened. Apparently no matter what happens in my life I’m 100% committed to making chocolate a part of it. #sorrynotsorry

So I guess this smoothie is what happens when you’re living a dairy-free, sugar-free life and mid-day chocolate cravings take hold. It’s got a whole lot of good stuff happening in it like ruby-red raspberries, chia seeds, coconut flakes, and vanilla bean, PLUS a little bit of a chocolatey twist thanks to some unsweetened cocoa powder. Helllooo antioxidants, healthy fats, plant-based proteins, and fiber (because I guess I’m a food nerd now and pay attention to these things). I love it because there’s chocolate in it, but I also love it because it’s a little bundle of superfoods packed into a quick, filling snack that gets me through the day.

Also, did I mention I’m obsessed with chia seeds now? We’re going on two recipes in a row here, so I feel like it’s officially becoming a thing, you guys. Chocolate chia seed pudding totally needs to happen next. And until then, we have super healthy smoothies – because it’s summer after all and who doesn’t want to drink their chocolate?!

Chocolate Raspberry Superfood Smoothie {gluten-free, refined sugar free, vegan, paleo}

Chocolate Raspberry Superfood Smoothie {gluten-free, refined sugar free, vegan, paleo}

Raspberries, cocoa powder, coconut flakes, and chia seeds add a boost of nutrients, antioxidants, and healthy fats to this fruity smoothie with a chocolatey twist.

Ingredients

  • 8 1/2 ounces (1 cup) unsweetened vanilla almond milk*
  • 5 ounces (1 cup) frozen raspberries
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened flaked coconut
  • 1 tablespoon raw cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla bean powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 drops pure stevia (I like NuNaturals Vanilla Stevia)
  • pinch sea salt

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.

Notes

*Feel free to sub in your favorite nut milk here. If you make your own that's even better!
